NILICO extends the life of EV-retired batteries for energy storage.
We are a Bangalore-based cleantech startup focused on recycling end-of-life lithium batteries using our proprietary hydrometallurgical technology. Our process recovers critical materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt, which are supplied back to EV battery cell manufacturers, reducing India’s import dependency and preventing toxic waste from entering landfills. We currently operate a 6 TPA pilot plant in Bangalore and are planning a 175 TPA commercial facility. Our technology enables high product purity (>99.5%) and yield (>95%) with a zero-liquid discharge system and lower processing costs. Supported by grants from the Ministry of Mines, MNRE, BIRAC, and the Government of Karnataka, and backed by collaborations with IIT researchers, our experienced team (15+ years) is working to accelerate India’s circular battery ecosystem and green energy transition.
NILICO being DEEPTECH startup, supported by leading Research Institutes, ARAI, Ministry of Mines, MNRE, BIRAC, and the Government of Karnataka, for make in India , Viksit Bharat vision.
Govt Grants of 2.5Cr been approved/sanctioned by Ministry of Mines, BIRAC and the Government of Karnataka.
We have filed two patent applications for our proprietary innovations in lithium battery recycling. Patent Application #202541064398 enables >95% lithium recovery with >99.5% purity, significantly higher than the industry average of ~75% recovery with higher impurities. Patent Application #202541066723 focuses on a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system using heat pumps, vacuum, vapor compression, and crystallization, reducing energy consumption by over 30%. Additionally, we are developing IP to convert black mass/metal salts into battery-grade Cathode Active Materials (CAM) to enable true circularity, along with a second-life battery prediction system, advanced power electronics, and EMS for repurposed BESS applications.
Set up a 6 TPA pilot production plant and received Pollution Control Board Certification (CFE) for operations. Achieved high-quality recycled materials with >99.5% purity, demonstrating strong technical capability. The startup has also secured ₹2.5 crore in grants from the Ministry of Mines, BIRAC, and the Government of Karnataka to support technology development and scale-up.
We have a great team with similar background experience >15 yrs ; collaborated with IIT for elemental research & expert Mentor(s).
