Engineered fungal cellulolytic cocktail for fueling a greener future
Astrazyme is an engineered fungal cellulolytic enzyme preparation derived from Talaromyces pinophilus. It has been enhanced by over-expressing LPMO and CBH1 to match the hydrolytic potential of the best commercial enzymes. Production has been scaled up to 15,000L, demonstrating consistency and enabling cellulase manufacturing at up to a 50 percent reduced cost compared to the current market value.
Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in the form of Bioenergy Centre Grant
The patents cover technology related to biomass hydrolysis, including methods for obtaining compositions and compositional analysis. Other areas include fungal strains with impaired catabolite repression and optimization for lignocellulosic degradation, as well as gene and genome engineering in fungal cells, and enzyme engineering.
1 patent, premier institution team and US and patents granted. Technologies scaled up to 15,000 L.
A team of five members, including a faculty advisor with 30 years of industrial biomanufacturing experience, from the Microbial Engineering Group at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi, possesses deep expertise in fungal genome editing/engineering and enzyme technology scale-up.
